Message at the End of year (2006) party by the Managing Director, Frank Ayim Damptey SPEECH PRESENTED BY FRANK AYIM DAMPTEY,
CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND MANAGING DIRECTOR OF
TATA BEVERAGES COMPANY LTD
AT THE END OF YEAR AND AWARDS NIGHT ACTIVITIES
HELD ON FRIDAY, 5TH JANUARY 2007 AT GICEL CONFERENCE HALL.
Aim for success not perfection; never give up your right to be wrong, because you will lose your ability to learn new things!
Nananom, Ladies and Gentlemen, Distinguished Guest, I welcome you with this quote by Dr. David Burns to the Second Award and End of Year Get-Together of Tata Beverages Company Ltd. Tata Beverages was incorporated in June 2002.
We are not perfect but our ambition is to succeed; we are like the fountain, which comes out all the time, seeks new ideas. Our first product ONE TOUCH AROMATIC BITTERS has been an instant hit in the Volta, Eastern, Central, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Upper West and the Western Regions. Our second product TROPICAL GINGER MILK was launched in the later part of last year and reports indicate that patronage is on the ascendancy. This year, hopefully, a third product, ANCIENT IMPERIAL BITTERS would be launched. The year 2006 also saw as launching the mini pack of the One Touch Aromatic Bitters in Sachets. The conveniences of handling the mini pack has made it a house holds item in most of the rural areas.
On this front, we should acknowledge the support and co-operation we have enjoyed from the Food and Drugs Board and the Food and Research Institute. The Ghana Industrial & Commercial Estates Limited has also been of immense help to us. Tata Beverages would ever be grateful to those who dreamt of the idea to establish such an estate. The SG-SSB BANK, Kane-em Industries, Polytank and Other Corporate Bodies who in diverse ways have helped the cause of Tata Beverages.
The liquor industry has provided the previously disadvantaged with an opportunity not only to have their own businesses but also in a limited way create jobs for the poor masses. Fifty years after independence we are still confronted by serious challenges of poverty and unemployment.
A high employment rate will reduce poverty, bring about higher incomes, and offer better education and higher standards of health.
Out of the forest of desperation Tata Beverages has been able to cut a log of hope for the one hundred workers who formed the nucleus of the company.
The company hopes to:
- Achieve further and visible advances with regard to the improvement of the quality of life of our worker.
- Focus on the growth, development and modernization of the company through the raising of the knowledge of workers and ensuring managerial and technological modernization.
- Ensure that we discharge our responsibilities to our people as a critical player in the process of growth, reconstruction and development of our country.
Typically the year has been full of challenges and difficulties. We, the local manufactures have to compete, with foreign products of questionable origin and ridiculously low, prices. I hope government can offer protection to made-in-Ghana products so that we can patronize our own products and create employment for ourselves.
Another disturbing trend in the industry is when customers refuse to pay up. The law compelling them to pay is very weak. It is tiresome and a long battle to retrieve the money. Tata Beverages has a dream that one day the financial Institutions would look at the performance of companies and grant credits instead of asking for documents on collaterals which take years to acquire.
Let me take this opportunity to thank all the workers for the sterling work they have done and still continues to do to ensure that we make a difference in the lives of our people. To the awards winners, I say more grease to your elbows, and to the media men gathered here I say the pen is mightier than the sword and to the entire distinguished guests thanks a lot for coming.
To borrow from the words of Hellen Keller, I will say to my workers “ THE WORLD IS MOVED NOT ONLY IN THE MIGHTY SHOVES OF THE HEROES BUT ALSO BY THE AGGREGATE OF TINY PUSHES OF EACH HONEST WORKER
We have come to the close of 2006 and the beginning of 2007. On behalf of Tata Beverages, I wish you all a Happy New Year. (May the Good Lord Shower his blessing upon you.) May the cascade of blessings be with you throughout the year.
Thank you all.
